Rehabilitation Services
At TOPS Veterinary Rehabilitation, we provide rehabilitation and integrative medicine services to dogs, cats, and other exotic pets in the greater Chicago area. Most cases seen by our specialists are referred by their primary care veterinary practitioner. To ensure the highest level of patient care and client experience, we work closely with referring veterinarians, becoming an extension of your own practice. TOPS Vet Rehab's doors opened in August 1998 at a time when veterinary rehabilitation was practically unheard of. Since that time, TOPS has become one of the world's more recognized names in veterinary rehabilitation. As a result, TOPS clients have come from literally all over the country, and even some from outside the country. Why? Because we deliver unparalleled results with some of the most experienced staff, and we making helping your pet recover and feel better our highest priority. Once you experience TOPS we think you will understand why our clients entrust their beloved family member to us. Our goal is not only to improve the physical condition of the patient, but to strengthen the pet-owner bond as well. Treatment options incorporate both traditional physical rehabilitation options as well as integrative medicine options, such as acupuncture and chiropractic.
Veterinary rehabilitation is an ever-growing field of medicine focused on helping animals that require additional support with recovery, mobility, pain management, or physical therapy Unique treatment plans are built around the patient’s needs and the client’s goals. Through comprehensive, integrative therapies, our rehabilitation teams work to help improve your pet’s quality of life.
Veterinary acupuncture is a therapy used to relieve pain and muscle spasms, and to increase nerve regeneration and blood circulation. During medical acupuncture for animals, slim, sterile needles are applied to specific points on the pet's body, leading to clinically proven improvements in comfort and function of muscles, organs, and nerves.
Animal chiropractic treatments are a form of manual therapy focused on manipulating the pet's joints and spine to provide greater alignment of the body. By receiving these adjustments, pets can experience a reduction in pain, greater balance, and stronger mobility. Chiropractic treatment can help alleviate symptoms stemming from several neurological and orthopedic conditions.

Dr. Jurek has always been passionate about making a difference in animals' lives. She was fortunate to have lots of support from her parents – and a dog and horse of her own. She knew early on that she should use her talents in veterinary medicine. After completing her DVM at Purdue University she spent 4 years at a small animal/ equine practice in Indiana, where her desire to have more options to treat her patients inspired her to pursue training in animal chiropractic. She received her certification in 2000, after which she joined an integrative small animal practice so that she could continue to grow and develop her skills. When she visited TOPS Veterinary Rehabilitation in 2002, she knew she was home. She fell in love with the hope and healing that rehabilitation brought to so many families, and the wonderful relationships that the staff had with patients and clients. She became certified in acupuncture as well as rehabilitation, and later pursued a Master’s degree in Integrative Veterinary Medicine – Canine to further advance her skills. She has been the acting Medical Director at TOPS for the last 5 years, combining her love of practice with teaching and mentoring. Dr. Jurek believes that a solid foundation in traditional medicine combined with integrative modalities provides the best support for her patients. When she is not busy practicing, she can be found in the quiet majesty of nature-hiking, fishing, stargazing, and swimming with her Labradors. She has also competed in dog obedience, rally, and agility, and is now enjoying shed hunting with her young dog.
